New hair, who dis?! You guys, I have been dying to color my hair since I was in middle school. I’ve always had natural highlights in my hair from the sun, but I’ve always wanted to go a little lighter. The first time I dyed my hair was almost two years ago for a job I did with Garnier. They colored my entire head, but it was different because I didn’t choose what color I got in my hair. After the shoot, I just let the color grow out for a natural ombre look, but after so long it just looked like half my head had color and it turned a little red-ish.
So, I finally sat in Madison Roulan’s chair (IG: @mads_hiar) who works between South Florida and NYC and did a partial balayage. I didn’t want to change my look entirely, I wanted my color to still look natural just a little lighter, so I decided to do a subtle partial balayage. I decided on partial instead of full because 1. it’s expensiveeeeee to color your hair, so I didn’t want to have to touch it up every 4 weeks 2. I didn’t want to worry about root growth / it’s less maintenance.
With my wedding only three months away, I wanted to color my hair now as a trial because if I loved it, it is how I’ll have my hair for my wedding day. Needless to say, I’m IN LOVE with the color. I’m on the long hair don’t care kick, so I didn’t cut my hair. I’ve just been dusting my ends every 4-6 weeks to maintain the length.
What products I use on my hair
Shampoo: I just ordered the dpHUE Cool Blonde Shampoo because it is a violet shampoo that helps reduce brassiness and warmth in your hair. I only plan on using this shampoo once a week to help maintain the color. I’ll alternate it with my SheaMoisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Replenishing Shampoo . My hair always used to plateau at a certain length, so I started using this shampoo by SheaMoisture with Black Castor Oil over a year ago and I firmly believe it is what has made my hair grow longer.
Oil: Before + after I blow dry my hair I’ll put a little bit of Bumble + Bumble Hairdresser’s Invisible oil in my hair because it’s multipurpose. It acts as a heat protectant, de-frizzes, and softens your hair. After I blow dry, I’ll run a little bit of the oil through my ends to make them look silky and soft. A little bit of product goes a long way – I purchased the bottle I have now over 2 years ago and I’m just now running out of it.
I posted a pic below of Marianna Hewitt’s hair that I used for my inspiration 🙂
