When it came to my wedding invitations, I knew exactly what I wanted. I knew I wanted deckled edge paper, calligraphy and our monogram, I just had to put it together. Little did I know, that wedding invitations actually cost a small fortune which was surprising because they are just invites. After going to multiple stationary stores, it was evident that of course the invitations I wanted, were the most expensive – go figure. I have expensive taste. So, I started looking at other alternative options like a clean grey invitation with white calligraphy, but then I thought it was too simple. I was set on the deckled edge paper, but I couldn’t justify the price.
Inspiration for Design
Being that I’ve been planning my wedding for two years, I had some Instagram pages that I followed for inspiration and decided to reach out to one of the pages I follow – @CharlieWhiskeyDesign and @FabulousFancyPants. Cait at Charlie Whiskey Design specializes in lettering and design. A family friend of mine actually used her for a wedding she planned and I loved the outcome.
After reaching out to Cait, I was pleased to find out that I was going to be saving easily a thousand dollars by going through her Etsy shop than what the stationary stores were charging, so I was SOLD! I finally had the invitations I wanted.
After mapping out the layout of our wedding invites with Cait at Charlie Whiskey Design, we came up with our monogram that I later had made onto a wax seal to seal the envelopes. I ordered the wax seals from Artisaire and ordered the ones that just had peel – off backs so I didn’t have to go through a whole production of stamping the wax seal on. They were already done and I just had to stick them on to the envelopes. It was a nice finishing touch to decorate the envelope and a nice glimpse into what was inside.
Lets be real though – after all the stress of finding the perfect invitation and tying them all together and sealing all the envelopes, the post office is going to throw them around and some of your guests will most likely throw the invitation right into the garbage after sending back the RSVP. It’s the harsh reality, but it’s true. Trust me, when I dropped off my box full of carefully put together wedding invites at the postal office and I saw the woman walk the box to the back and throw them, a little part of me died inside. So, if I have any advice, it’s to not stray too far away from the reality and not to get lost in the sauce of wedding planning – it’s easy to spin a little bit out of control.
