Harper’s 6 Month Update

Hi! It’s been a little while because I’m still trying to get better at my mommy time management skills – if you know, you know. As Harper’s naps have become shorter, my slots of productivity have also become shorter. Here’s the latest: I HAVE A SIX MONTH OLD!!! What?! I can’t believe six months have gone by – time is a thief! I’d do anything to go back to the newborn blur // bliss that I feel like left from one day to the next. I have to say, six months is a fun age though. Harper is the sweetest, most chill, loves to hang, good soul, baby girl ever. I know I’m biased, but truly. I don’t know how I ever lived without her. Here’s what’s been going on for the last six months:

+ Harper is rolling over & loves to sleep on her tummy.

+ She’s now sitting up without assistance + trying to crawl. She rocks back + forth.

+ We’ve ventured into the world of solids & so far so good. She seems to have her father’s appetite so she loves everything so far & took to using a spoon right away. We’ve started sweet potatoes, spinach & we’re going to introduce bananas this week. I’ve been following the Big Book of Organic Baby Food & have been pureeing her food from scratch. I don’t know how long this will last, but I find making enough to store for the rest of the week or a couple of days at least, helps.

+ Her favorite thing to do is play with her toes & eat them. I don’t blame her, they’re delicious.

+ Harper noticed the pups & can’t wait to play with them. She’s pulling their ears + accidentally poking eyes out, but she’ll get there ( I hope).

+ Since we’ve started giving her solids, we’ve also introduced her to h20.

+ Ever since she was 6 / 7 weeks old she has been sleeping through the night. ** knock on wood ** She goes to bed at 8pm and sleeps til 7am. She has honestly been a great sleeper from day 1, but we did incorporate a routine the day we brought her home. We would wake her up every 3 hours to eat and start the day everyday at 7am. Before I knew it, she was functioning like clockwork. We took the Taking Cara Babies first 12 weeks course when I was pregnant that I HIGHLY recommend.

+ I’ve managed to keep the toys to a minimum & my house hasn’t been taken over by all things baby which I’m hoping I can maintain. We keep all of her toys in her room so she knows that’s her space. We use the Lovevery subscription boxes which deliver developmental toys every 2 months based off of her age which has taken the guessing out of how to entertain her. She has loved everything that has come in the subscription. Her ride or die is this llama from Manhattan Toy Company – she takes her everywhere.

+ She LOVES bath time. I think it’s her favorite part of the day. I don’t know if it’s any inclination that she’ll also love to swim.

+ Her laugh melts my heart. She definitely is selective at what she thinks is funny. She doesn’t hand out laughs to everybody.

+ I taught her to give besitos so she gives wet “kisses” on the cheek + loves when you blow kisses at her.

+ she smiles BIG when I say “mama”

+ Whenever she sees me or her daddy she reaches her arms out to be carried & it’s soo cute.

+ She definitely recognizes people & voices when she seems them on FaceTime or in person.

+ I had my first work day away from her & it wasn’t as bad as I thought. I FaceTimed with her twice while I was gone & we made it through the day.

+ After all my preparation + consistency, she said “dada” instead of mama. Devin isn’t let me live it down.

+ I feel very confident in what I’m doing now as opposed to the first month. Devin was my rock in the beginning when I didn’t feel comfortable burping her, maneuvering her, etc. Now, I have my bearings & we have a good routine / rhythm down. Trust yourself + your mama instincts to guide you along the way.
