Last weekend I finished our guest room / office. I wanted this room to be multi-functional, but NOT cluttered. I wanted it to be an inspirational space where I could be creative and feel inspired. To make it not feel cluttered I went with a sleeper sofa from West Elm that actually collapses and doesn’t take up too much space. We hardly ever have guests spend the night so it didn’t make sense to get a full size bed in the room. Since this room isn’t the largest, we wouldn’t have been able to also make it an office. All the pillows on the sleeper are basically a collection of the pillows I’ve purchased for different areas of the house that I rotated out and dev won’t let me get rid of them, so that is where they reside (get married they said).
The ottoman is from Urban Outfitters and I love the texture it adds to the room. I paired it with this cowhide rug (also from Urban) which I love because it’s minimal and doesn’t take up a lot of space. I wanted the focal point of this room to be the gallery wall. It’s mixed with some personal photos of me and dev as well as his hometown football stadium and different prints that i’ve collected.
This room was all white until one day I decided that I wanted the one accent wall to be deep green (Salamander by Benjamin Moore). To say dev thought I was crazy is in a understatement – he came home to me turning this room upside down, on a ladder, and half a green wall. It took some convincing to get him to see my vision for this space, but he gets it now. I’m really happy with how this wall turned out because for me it plays into the neutral tones of the space and adds some depth.
Dev really wanted to have a desk for days he works from home so we found one from Amazon (similar one here) – also neutral with this brown leather chair. It’s a happy medium between functionality and looks, a common conversation every time furniture is purchased for this house. When it comes to decorating I’m all about mixing high and low. Splurge on items that are important like a sleeper, ottoman, and rug and save on a desk setup that you probably won’t take with you to your next home. Dev’s entire desk setup is from Amazon which is a win in both our books.
What do you think? Is this a guest room space you’d like to crash in for a night?
