My Inspiration: An Open Letter to the Strong Women In My Life

Who or what inspires you everyday to grow? We are surrounded by so much inspiration everyday with social media it is basically at our fingertips. International Women’s Day just passed and the holiday gave me time to reflect on all the women I have looked up to throughout the years. Growing up, I was always inspired by my mom and women I idolized in magazines or on television (Adriana Lima, Tyra Banks, J.LO etc.) that were where I wanted to be. I used them for inspiration for my end-goal in my career. I yearned to be like them and I needed to figure out how I could get there.

With the help of social media, I have the opportunity to admire so many different women I come across who are just making things happen. The movers and shakers of the world who have a vision and follow it through, build their own brands / businesses and become their own boss. As a result, they motivate me everyday to work harder, to perfect my craft, and to be the best version of myself in every facet of my life.

I’ve been surrounded by strong women my entire life between my mom, my aunts, and the people I’ve chosen to surround myself with. My mom was always selfless and such a hard worker that growing up, I always knew not working hard wasn’t an option. I also grew up with a mom who did both – she had her career and she had her family and I’ve always admired her ability to do both while remaining kind to everyone she meets. Since working at the age of 15, I knew I had to work hard to get to where I wanted to go, but I also had to be kind along the way.

It’s OK to pat yourself on the back and say thank you”

While other women inspire me, I like to think I inspire myself as well. I remind myself whenever I start to feel defeated that I got to where I am today because I never gave up. I am fully committed to what I’m passionate about and I feel like the universe rewards me for it. I’m also a believer of manifesting what you want out of life and working towards it. I think of the 15-year-old little girl with braces and glasses that wanted to be the girl in magazines and in stores and that ambition drives me everyday. It’s OK to pat yourself on the back and say thank you.

Thank you to the women in my life who have inspired me to grow and thank you to the 15-year-old little girl for believing she could.

xx Raquel
