Positano, Capri + Ravello Travel Guide

Positano Travel Guide

I fell in love with Positano so much that one day wasn’t enough. I made sure we went back for one more day in the beautiful pastel colored town. Our first day, we rented out one of the colored umbrella chairs and just relaxed after taking a million photos of me in the center of all the umbrellas (as seen on Pinterest). If you don’t rent out an umbrella, you have to bring a beach towel and lay out on the other side of the beach on the pebbles which isn’t so comfortable.

TIP: bring flip-flops with you to the beach!!! I wore sandals, but not flip-flops that I didn’t care for if they got wet and Devin had to carry me to the water and back to the chair because I was going to burn my feet. Since there isn’t sand, the pebbles get really hot and also actually really hurt your feet, so do yourself the favor and pack flip-flops. The Italian sun is also super strong, so wear SPF – I wore sunscreen and still got about 4 shades darker.

For lunch, we ate at the oldest and original restaurant in Positano called Chez Black. It’s right along the beach and the pesto pasta is delicious!

Anacapri  Travel Guide

We took an hour long ferry from Amalfi to the island of Capri. The island was so beautiful with the friendliest people. We had a tour guide for Anacapri so we took a bus from Capri and rode up the mountain to Anacapri where we had lunch and went to the villa of San Michele – the panoramic museum house built by Axel Munthe. We also visited the most ancient steps known as the Phoenician steps.

We were told if we were in Capri we had to eat Ravioli, which I wasn’t complaining about because that is my favorite pasta. The tour guide gave us a restaurant recommendation so we ate at Le Terrazze Ristorante Snack Bar and the ravioli did not disappoint. After Anacapri, we went down to explore Capri.

Capri Travel Guide

Capri is definitely a shopping destination – housing every designer store imaginable, beautiful hotels and even better views. After touring AnaCapri and Capri, Devin and I wanted to get on a boat around the island. The Blue Grotto was closed due to high tide, so we missed out on that, but we took a different tour around the island. There are stands offering boat trips down by the docs in Capri that are fairly reasonable. For 18 euros each we were able to get on a boat with about 4 other couples and did a tour of the island. We went to Grotta Bianca, Arco Naturale, Faraglioni, and so on. The boat tour lasted about two hours and we had so much fun. The water in Italy is crystal clear blue, you can see straight to the bottom. When we were there the water was cold, so I wouldn’t actually go swimming in it so the boat was ideal. Just visiting the island of Capri isn’t enough — I highly recommend getting on a boat and doing a tour.

Ravello Travel Guide

Ravello was the smallest town we visited, but it was gorgeous. It is a resort town at the tippy top of a mountain that is home to two beautiful villa gardens, Villa Rufolo and Villa Cimbrone,  and a duomo in the center of the main square. If you veer off you will find narrow streets with hundreds of steps that will lead you up to shops, restaurants, and hotels. If you visit Ravello you have to stop at the villas to see the gardens and the view. We had dinner reservations so we only had enough time to go into one villa, Villa Rufolo which was home to a beautiful garden overlooking the sea.

We really had a trip of a lifetime and I’m so happy we decided to go to Italy. I can’t wait to go back and venture out to other parts of the beautiful country. I hope this travel guide is useful if you are planning your next trip!
