Our half bath downstairs is my favorite bathroom in the house. Since it is our smallest bathroom, I wanted to have fun with it. When we moved into this house we decorated it the best we could with what we were given. The old tile that was throughout our house was also in this bathrooms and I always felt like it threw off everything I’d bring into the house. Nothing looked good against the beige, so the tile was the first thing to go. We got rid of the beige and opted for a fun pattern for the floor. I wanted this bathroom to be our vintage themed bathroom, so we went with a black, grey and white floor.
To add some interest to the walls, we added wall panel moulding throughout the bottom half of the bathroom and painted it black. We got rid of the towel rack and took the photos down because we added enough interest with the paneling. I only wanted half of the bathroom to be painted black because I didn’t want the bathroom to appear smaller than it was or too dark.
“The Beauty Is In The Details”
If you look at the before photos you’ll notice what’s outdated: the mirror, the light fixture and the sink. There was a pedestal sink in the original bathroom and I thought that was a great style for the vintage theme I was going for that also wouldn’t take up a lot of space. Unfortunately, it wasn’t white so we ordered this one instead. I ordered this light fixture from Wayfair that incorporated black and gold and found a gold mirror from Bed Bath + Beyond that unfortunately I can’t find anywhere online to link it for you. I wanted all the hardware in this bathroom to be gold. Honestly, just changing the mirror and light fixtures in a bathroom can make the biggest difference and it doesn’t have to be expensive. The beauty really is in the details.
Since I opted to ditch the towel rack, I added this gold towel ring from Anthropologie next to the sink and switched out the toilet paper holder for it’s matching set. Devin and I purchased the “wash your hands sign” from the Magnolia Collection at Target when it first released and have been waiting to hang it up. We finally found a home for it on the way out of the bathroom and created a pretty corner with a small black stool and a little greenery for color.
