Our Master Bathroom Remodel Before + After

Hi guys!! I’ve been SO excited to finally be able to show you our bathroom reveals. It’s been 8 months since we started construction at our home between installing new floors throughout the house and demo-ing all three bathrooms. I’ve taken you along the journey of our floors here + here and if you follow me on Instagram then you’ve been following along during the bathroom process as well.

We finally finished all three bathrooms, but I wanted to dedicate a blog post for each one. Let’s start off with our master. I’m going to link items we purchased as well as before + after photos.

Our Master Bath Before Photos

Our master bathroom before needed a lot of updating. We knew going into this that the master bathroom was going to be a complete gut and I honestly couldn’t WAIT to get started. I didn’t like the dark cabinets or the beige on the floors and in the shower. The dark colors just made the space look smaller. The vanity was a single sink vanity that had extra counter space on the side, but was too close to the toilet. It’s not a huge space, so we wanted to make the most out of the space that we had without making it feel cluttered. The best way to do this was to keep everything l i g h t.

Design Process

Picking out tile, designs, vanity, hardware and fixtures was the best part of the whole process. I had so much fun putting different elements together and creating a light space. When it came to this bathroom, some of the key elements I knew I wanted were: black and white, brass, and subway tile.

We decided to go with white subway tile in the shower, all the way up to the ceiling. The old tile didn’t reach all the way up, so we wanted to make sure the new tile did to make the shower feel bigger. I wanted a contrast on the floor of the shower, so we went with small white and black hexagon tiles that look like little flowers. I knew I wanted a black and white shower with black hardware so I thought this would tie in the black pretty nicely. We also carried the floor pattern into the shower niche.

All the black hardware in the shower is from Amazon and all the tile in the bathroom is from Lowe’s. Our shower door before needed to be replaced so we purchased this glass shower door from Home Depot with matte black finishes. When it came to the bathroom floors, we went with a large hexagon white tile. I LOVE the way the floors came out! The wide hexagon tile makes the space look larger and also adds some character to the space. White tile was a no brainer.

Instead of just changing the cabinets on the old vanity, we decided on getting a brand new one as well as a cabinet to house towels and basically all of my makeup because I have a lot of it! The cabinet allows us to have more storage and gives us more space between the cabinet and the toilet. We had to replace the toilet from a beige one to a white one. I repurposed a white mirror we already had in the house and went with brass hardware for the sink and light fixture.

My mom and I found these gorgeous towel hooks at Anthropologie that I just couldn’t resist. We got “M” and “R” initially for Raquel and McKinney because there wasn’t a “D” for Devin, but my mom had the brilliant idea to just have it say MR. The hooks fit perfectly next to the cabinet and are one of my favorite pieces. To fill in the blank space above the toilet, I went to Target and purchased two brass frames and put two black and white lingerie pictures in them (afterall, it is our bathroom).

DIY Hardware + Mirror

Whenever you can have some fun and DIY – do it! There were two things in the master bathroom that I needed to DIY: our mirror that we were going to put up and the handles on the vanity and the cabinet. I repurposed this white mirror we had in the house and decided to just spray paint it matte black because it fit the space perfectly. My mother in-law spray painted it for me and it worked like a charm! The vanity that we bought has really specific handle sizes that I couldn’t find in brass anywhere. I looked everywhere, so the only option was to spray paint them brass. Same with the hardware on the cabinet. My mother in-law spray painted the handles for me as well and everything came out perfect. I was worried the brass wouldn’t match the faucet – but, it does! It was something that we could do in a day that was inexpensive, an easy fix, and fun 🙂

xx Raquel
