Normally for the new year I do a blog post either reflecting on the past year or about resolutions I have in store for the new year ( 2017 post here + 2018 resolutions here). I started 2020 at Oprah’s 2020 Vision: Your Life In Focus tour in Fort Lauderdale and just feel like that alone is good juju for the next decade. There’s something about being in Oprah’s presence that feels like a gift – I was instantly inspired and filled with gratitude. I wanted to share everything that I learned from her show that I’m taking with me into 2020 that you can also apply to yourself.
You Are Exactly Where You’re Supposed To Be
There’s nothing like the reminder that you’re exactly where you’re supposed to be. Every decision we’ve made or path we’ve gone down has led you us exactly where we are now, which is exactly where we’re supposed to be. Whether it’s for a lesson, for growth, or if it’s temporary or permanent, we’re here and we’ve earned the right to be just as we are.
Oprah mentioned something interesting that resonated with me about how we move through life. Our lives are constantly shifting so the only real balance in our lives is the balance we create. Once we achieve balance, we move within our own flow. You just have to figure out the space of your flow because you only have power within YOUR flow and can control your center of wellness and wellbeing within it. By bringing balance and flow to your life, you’re allowing yourself to become who you were meant to be. It’s easy to get distracted by outside noise or expectations you have put on yourself, but for 2020 I’m going to live with intention and only do what I have intentional purpose to do by activating my vision and claiming my power over what I want.
Wellness
Everyone has a different definition of wellness and what it means to them in their life. For me, wellness means that my tank is being filled in all categories: work, relationships, home and health. In order to make sure that my tank is being filled in each category, I have to be present and conscious every day that I’m doing something to work towards that goal. A good question to ask yourself everyday is, “did I do something today to better myself or to contribute to my goal?”
At Oprah’s show we worked through a workbook together that helped us score ourselves on our current state of wellness so we can see where we were balanced and where we needed to focus more of our energy. I need to focus more on learning and nutrition to be more balanced in my life so that will be my focus this year. She made us ask ourselves questions we wouldn’t normally ask ourselves so we could see what we need to focus on and how to create healthy habits on how to do it.
After you define your healthy habits, all that’s left to do is commit. 2020 is all about dreaming intentionally and making dreams and goals happen by committing to my plan. I am going to make a conscious effort to live in a state of gratitude – give back to myself and then give back to others.
What will you commit to this year?
