What To Expect In Your Second Trimester

How Far Along I Am

I’m officially 24 weeks pregnant today and more than halfway there to meeting my little girl. I can’t believe how fast time is passing by and how soon I’ll get to meet her! I’ve loved being pregnant + will definitely miss it. I officially popped around 20-21 weeks + have felt baby move a lot more. She checks in a couple times throughout the day to say hi, but she’s the most active at night once I’m in bed. Luckily, it hasn’t interfered with my sleep.

My second trimester thankfully has been easier than my first. My morning sickness, nausea + headaches that plagued me in the beginning of my pregnancy went away. I got my energy back + started to feel more like myself. The most exciting thing for me about the second trimester was the 20 week anatomy scan. Getting to see how big baby is + watch her move for a long period of time. Doc appts are usually so short + quick so it was nice to get to see her for a longer period of time. You also get some cool pictures to take home with you.

When does your second trimester officially start?

Pregnancy time is a little more complicated to keep track of because there’s a two week gap in the calculation from when you conceived and your baby’s gestational age. The easiest way for me to keep track of how far along I am and what month each week equals is by referencing the chart below courtesy of the What To Expect App. You’re officially in your second trimester from month 4 thru 6 (weeks 14 to 27). I highly recommend downloading a baby app that’ll give you a full breakdown week to week.

The two I use daily are What To Expect + The Bump.

Food Cravings / Weight Gain

My appetite has definitely started to increase + i’m starting to crave things like a bowl of frosted flakes, chocolate chip pancakes + blueberry smoothies. The weight gain comes out of nowhere whenever I go to my doctors appointments. I don’t physically notice the gain other than the obvious belly, but every week i’m gaining weight which is wild, but good for baby.

To maintain my body, i’ve been taking 2 mile walks around the neighborhood + doing at home workouts by Melissa Wood Health. She has a great inexpensive monthly subscription service that offers prenatal + post natal workouts using your own body weight, arm weights, resistance bands, etc. which I love. I’m trying to remain as active as possible for a smooth delivery + healthy babe. Having all this extra time at home right now due to Covid-19 has given me more time to focus on my workouts which I’m not mad about.

Maternity Clothes

I’ve been trying to extend the life of my clothes I already have pre-pregnancy, but i’m not going to lie, it’s getting harder. I live in sweat pants, dresses + these maternity leggings by Blanqi – they’re worth every penny. I love that they are compression wear, help with circulation + support the bump. I’ve been shopping at my regular stores + just sizing up one size if I have to or buying items that have some stretch. Some stores i’m shopping at are:

  • vici dolls
  • nordstrom
  • free people
  • zara
  • naked wardrobe

For all my pregnant mamas right now during this nightmare of a pandemic, all we can do is stay calm, have gratitude + be positive. This too shall pass. Sending you love + positivity your way on your journey.
